Just Awesome Travel is about the great American road trip: the weekend loop through the mountains, the coast drive you’ve been promising yourself, the cross-country run with a car full of snacks. We love the open road, and we’re a little obsessive about the planning that keeps it fun.
What we cover
The parts of a road trip that decide whether it goes smoothly:
- Plan the route: scenic byways and parkways, fuel and trip budgets, tolls and driving across the border into Canada or Mexico.
- The car: the pre-trip checkup, renting a car for a long drive and planning charging stops in an EV.
- On the road: long driving days, winter mountain passes and what to do if you break down.
How we research
Road rules are set by the people who run the roads, so that’s where we look: state departments of transportation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Federal Highway Administration, the National Park Service, the Department of Energy and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. We use AI tools to help research and draft, and we check every rule, number and requirement against those sources before a guide goes up. Where something changes often, such as chain laws, closures or border rules, we tell you where to confirm it before you leave.
What we don’t do
We don’t take money from rental companies, toll agencies, charging networks or tourism boards, and we don’t publish sponsored routes. We haven’t driven every road we write about, and we don’t pretend to; our guides are research-based unless an article says otherwise.
Spotted something out of date on a route you’ve just driven? We’d love to hear it. Our contact page has the details.
